I tried to solve this before you wrote:
I did check Xorg.0.log.old but I saw nothing strange.
MY solution was to reset compiz configuration to default:
rm -Rf .compiz
rm -Rf .config/compiz*
and now it doesn't hang anymore.
If it happens again I'll open another bug.
