I received drivers from Realtek today that seem to fix this problem for me. Stable connection so far without having to resort to the 3.0 kernel. I posted the drivers here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=10989459&postcount=135
Go to page 14 of that thread for context, but it seems that the only issue with those drivers is some kind of conflict with conky.
