This is a question (i.e., a request for technical support) rather than a
bug report. Ordinarily, I would convert it to a question (which would
automatically mark it Invalid), but it was also simultaneously asked as
a question (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-
manager/+question/163038), so I am marking it Invalid manually. Users
who wish to report bugs that appear similar to this should *not* reopen
this bug report, but should instead create new bug reports.

Given that the error message contained instructions to file a bug
report, it is quite understandable that one was filed. Given the
information that was available to the original reporter, it made sense
to file this bug report. However, since following a version of the
standard troubleshooting procedure
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PackageManagerTroubleshootingProcedure)
eliminated the problem, this should not be considered a bug unless other
evidence that the problem happened due to a bug can be presented.
