This looks like bug 767095. 3.8.12 is, by now, a rather old version of Unity (the current version in Ubuntu 11.04 is unity 3.8.16-0ubuntu1~natty1). Please update all the installed software on your system (not just the unity package, as there are some other packages, including but not limited to compiz, that may be related to this problem), reboot, and see if the problem has gone away.
If the problem has gone away and where the single blue pixel was, there is now a fully visible icon, then this bug can be marked as a duplicate of bug 767095. If the problem has gone away and the single blue pixel has disappeared but not been replaced with anything, then this bug can be changed from Incomplete to Invalid (as in this case it's "fixed" but no information is handy about what fixed it, nor confirmation that unity is the package in which it was fixed, so there is no benefit to marking the bug "Fix Released"). If the problem has not gone away, then please open a Terminal window (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run "apport-collect 781211" (without the quotes) to automatically attach important information to this bug report, then visit this bug page and verify that the information has been automatically attached and that the tag "apport-collected" was automatically added. If so, this bug can be changed back from Incomplete to New.
