I can confirm that this has enabled trackpad functionality on my XPS15z. I am not sure how this is supposed to be incorporated into the next Ubuntu version, but following the instructions here: https://wiki.edubuntu.org/HardwareSupport/Machines/Laptops/Dell/XPS/15z#Trackpad you should be able to get it working.
