Confirmed. This is related (?) to bug 102818, and the Main or Front adujustment is not a fix because Master in alsamixer and systemwide only seems to control the treble speakers ie 'FRONT' bus in the mixer. Does the MacBook have three speakers or four? The bass sound comes from the CENTER bus, which is MONO, right only, which makes me think that there is a set of stereo speakers (treble sound) plus a center speaker (bass sound). Is the driver at fault here? I don't know enough *nix to tell, just a newbie.
