Steps to reproduce: 1- Install GIMP 2- Launch GIMP 3- Select the font tool (letter A in the toolbox) 4- On the font selection part of the toolbox, click on the font selector (Aa). 5- Move the pointer to the left of the scroll indicator to make the scroll control/grabber appear 6- Click and hold on the control/grabber as if you were to drag it up/down
Upon doing this the font selection combobox closes/disappears. There's no way to use the scrollbar. If gimp is started from a terminal thus: LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 gimp then it uses the old-style scrollbars and everything works as it previously did.
