I suspect I might be able to add something and help clarify the problem. When I 
resume after hibernating overnight a small warning pops up saying that 
hibernation failed when in fact it worked successfully. This warning make a 
mention of HAL. Also in my ~/.xsession-errors there is the following:
** (gnome-session:13603): WARNING **: Couldn't connect to PowerManager Method 
invoked for Hibernate returned FALSE but did not set error
I am using an NVIDIA card with the nvidia-glx-legacy drivers with the NvAGP 
option set to 1.

Is this the issue you are seeing too or are you describing something else? If 
it's something else I suspect you will have to further describe the problem...
