Public bug reported:
Most likely the system ran out of physical memory. Then X crashed, the
screen was completely garbled and the system was irresponsive. The crash
most likely affected also the kernel (¿via the nvidia module?), since
attempts to login remotely via ssh resulted on connections being closed
by the remote server.
