Markus, can you tell what exactly is being displayed after suspending? I have to say that suspend worked for me a while ago (after having upgraded my Thinkpad W510's BIOS) but now, I'm experiencing a similiar (if not the same) issue like you: When I press the power button (turn it on again) or open up the lid (if it has been closed previously), it freezes showing some (kernel?) log.
