Thanks for that.  So, attached is the tabulated list of upgraded
packages.  Quite a few actually, although few that have to do with
input, and only a small number of X packages.

Still, I would suggest testing downgrading individual packages to
isolate which caused the regression.  The most obvious ones to try first
would be udev, xserver-xorg-input-evdev, and xorg-server (which provides
both xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core).

If you still have the old debs in your apt cache you may be able to
just do something like:

  apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-evdev=1:2.6.0-1ubuntu13

etc.

If not, you can snag the .debs from launchpad.
