Thanks, Brian. Unfortunately, Update Manager seems to be denying now that I have any updates that need to be installed, and I don't know how to tell it to give me the old ones back!
In addition, after running the command you provided in terminal and trying to open Update Manager, I got three crash reports, which I have submitted as bug #808523 through #808525.
