open gnome paint
paste the image/graphical object
click save

result=blank picture
desired result=the image/graphical object that was saved

desired result=the image/graphical object that was saved

workaround=edit the image/graphical object that you paste (I used the
pencil to write a line and then I clicked undo. That was enough to allow
me to save what I paste)
