After closing the error window, the update-manager continued with the
installation. Then another error window came up.

Title: Could not install the upgrades
Subtitle: The upgrade aborts now. Your system could be in an unusable state.
A recovery was run (dpkg --configure -a). Please report this bug against the
'update-manager' package and include the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/ in the
bugreport.
Inner textarea: installArchives() failed

At this time, I could not reach the internet. My wireless card was no
longer configured properly. The Terminal area on the update-manager was
open and it showed a 127 exit status from the post-installation script
for latex-ucs-docs again. The line above said that mktexlsr was not
found. This shows up in the attached term.log.

So I dismissed this window and the update process stopped. BTW: The
initial 'gksu "update-manager -c" returned a 0 exit status!!  I rebooted
and wireless card was still not configured properly. I ran ifdown eth1
and then ifup eth1 and then it worked. Maybe the update process should
not be done over a wireless card?? If that's so, it would be nice to
add these instructions and maybe even check in the update-manager.
