Hi Seth, I went back to the rebooting kernel. This system is a "bag of hurt" :) I'm seeing erratic behavior, but I was consistent in the testing, waiting for at least 30 seconds before trying to wake up the system.
I can tell you that in *most* attempts (like, 10 out of 12) the system would start afresh after pressing the power button to wake up (behavior B). The other two attempts, I observed behavior "A". If the kernel is indeed coming back from suspend, might it be worth repeating the diagnostics with systemtap?
