Public bug reported:

I have a brand new desktop computer and I installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit
from a USB stick with Internet connection. The installation was
successful but when I rebooted into the system, it failed logging into
the Xwindow. I pressed Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see if I could see command line
but saw errors like:

ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x0
ata1.00: BMDMA stat 0x24
ata1.00: status: { DRDY ERR }
ata1.00: error: { UNC }

Then I tried to install it without Internet connection so that it would not
download any updates. This time, the system booted without any failure. And I
used it for one day or two. Because the system kept reminding me the new
updates, I finally decided give it a try, but just after the update completed,
the disk failure information appeared again. I cold rebooted my computer and
could not get into the system with the updated 2.6.38-10 kernel. I could get
into the system with the old 2.6.38-8 kernel but the system got very slow when
read/write files and finally got freeze (it also said /tmp is read-only for
several times). When I booted into the repair mode, I could see the same error
message. I switched my SATA settings in BIOS from IDE to AHCI but the error
still there.

By the way, Windows works perfectly well. Mac OS X (hackintosh) works
perfectly well.

My computer specification is:
Intel i5 2500k, I overclocked it to 4.00GHz, Vcore = 1.245V (Default 1.25V),
8hr torture test passed in Windows
Corsair Vengeance 2x4Gb 1600Mhz, 8-8-8-24
Gigabyte Z68x UD3, BIOS version F1, SATA mode = IDE
West Digital Caviar Blue 1Tb, connected to the SATA 3.0 port

Thank you.
