This bug report was originally filed in 2008. The entire handling of boot-time mounting in Ubuntu has changed radically since then, so the original issue that was being reported is almost certainly no longer present. I'm therefore closing this report.
I see in the bug log that some users are reporting similar symptoms on later releases of Ubuntu that use the reworked boot mounting (upstart+mountall).
