Met same problem in natty. @Steve Langasek There is no way to reproduce open(/var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs/nfs) problem in oneric because mount-related actions from /etc/init/rpc_pipefs.conf were moved to /etc/init/idmapd.conf and /etc/init/gssd.conf. I think, that best solution for this bug is to backport contents of /etc/init directory of nfs-common package.
