what i've done so far to narrow down the source of the bug is this: 1. run a live distribution from a usb stick 2. mount a number of harddrives read-only 3. run 2 diffs in parallel over 4 folders in total, each ~500GB in size 4. run top to have some movement on the screen at all, so i can spot if the system has frozen 5. once it looks like it's frozen (top not updating, no reaction to mouse or keyboard), i try a reisub, that doesn't usually do anything, so i cold-reboot
so far, i've tested these LIVE distributions (not quite in the order shown though): live distribution tested -- freeze ? kubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-amd64 -- yes kubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-i386 -- no kubuntu-11.04-desktop-amd64 -- no openSUSE-11.4-KDE-LiveCD-x86_64 -- no ubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-amd64 -- yes now i have ubuntu 10.04 and 11.04 installed in parallel, so i can update them. ubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-amd64 with all updates (current as of today 20110720-120000+1000 still freezes. will get my head around installing a main line and ubuntu dev kernel next. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/813301 Title: 10.04.2 64bit freezes reproducibly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/813301/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
