Sorry if I sounded in anyway impolite in my previous comment - I was in
a rush at the time of writing.
I tried all of the suggestions in your post, but none of them appeared
to have any effect on the problem ("sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off" still
does on my home network).
Here are the results of the tests you asked for:
