The new ATI driver provided by default in ubuntu 10.04 kernel (2.6.32.X) achieves very slow performance compared to the old driver. If i boot my computer with 'nomodeset' option, i get nearly twice the FPS in openarena (90fps instead of 45) or glxgears (10000 frames in 5s instead of 4500). The nomodeset option disables the new ATI modesetting driver I also try to compile the latest 'standard' kernel from kernel.org (2.6.39) and it gave the same results.
