  Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.32-32-generic

  Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
  linux-image-2.6.32-32-generic

I consider this as bug regarding the very important loss of performance.

The new ATI driver provided by default in ubuntu 10.04 kernel (2.6.32.X)
achieves very slow performance compared to the old driver.

If i boot my computer with 'nomodeset' option, i get nearly twice the FPS in
openarena (90fps instead of 45) or glxgears (10000 frames in 5s instead of
4500).
The nomodeset option disables the new ATI modesetting driver

I also try to compile the latest 'standard' kernel from kernel.org
(2.6.39) and it gave the same results.

The new kernel driver involved is : CONFIG_DRM_RADEON_KMS=y
My video card is an ATI Radeon Mobility X600

- Are there investigations around performance of the new ATI kernel driver
- ?
