It appears support for your graphics chipset (GMA500) is very poor on
Linux and may be the cause of your problem:

There is most probably very little that can be done about this as the
drivers are closed source and the development of open-source equivalents
appears to be stalling due to the age of the chipset.
Also, this appears to be very similar to a bug previously reported
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/566433) so I
will mark it as a duplicate.
