Public bug reported:
I am running 10.04 LTS. When I connect my phone (n900/maemo5), it should
appear in the network manager applets list of (previously configured)
devices, but it does not.
The following messages are in /var/log/messages :
Jul 23 14:35:44 jeeves pppd[3006]: LCP terminated by peer
Jul 23 14:35:44 jeeves pppd[3006]: Connect time 51.2 minutes.
Jul 23 14:35:44 jeeves pppd[3006]: Sent 791936 bytes, received 3913024 bytes.
Jul 23 14:35:47 jeeves pppd[3006]: Connection terminated.
Jul 23 14:35:48 jeeves pppd[3006]: Terminating on signal 15
Jul 23 14:35:48 jeeves pppd[3006]: Modem hangup
Jul 23 14:35:48 jeeves pppd[3006]: Exit.
I now have to use one of these work-arounds[1] :
1) boot with the phone attached, or
2) sudo rmmod cdc_acm; sudo modprobe cdc_acm
>From memory, it used to work out of the box, but that was some time ago.
I think my system was at 10.04 LTS at that time, and I've since kept it
up to date but still at 10.04 LTS. My intention in staying with LTS was
to avoid this kind of problem with new OS releases, and this is my
motivation for filing this bug.
$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS
Release: 10.04
I am not totally sure where the problem lies.
[1] I understand there is another workaround involving wvdial.
