After trying the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 I did not see this behavior. I
had both firefox and chrome installed before the upgrade as you said. After
the upgrade, firefox was still my default browser as expected. It may have
been a local error. It would be good if you could test it again, but
unfortunately we cannot 'roll back' to the older version and try an upgrade
again. I am going to close this report. Thanks for reporting it and feel free
to do so again in the future!
