Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: upgrade-system
I did a dist upgrade from Ubuntu 6.10 to 7.04 and got the following error on
reboot.
fsck exited with status 8 (/dev/hda2). Though nothing of it and ran fsck which
then cleaned and repaired the file system and carried on until the system
became unusable. So deciding this was a product of the dist upgrade and the
relative age of the machine I set about reinstalling from the Ubuntu boot disk.
Things went fine right up to the point the machine was booted up the following
day and the message reappeared. I ran fsck manually again this time the system
came back with a shed load of errors which were fixed.
Right now lets reboot. Boot splash Ok starting to boot then hung. I have
access to the logs from my life boat (Windows 2000) but theirs nothing
significant other than some unhandled drive error codes and the fsck log had
the following content.
Log of fsck -C -R -A -a

The system is now unbootable (well Linux is anyway).
The kernel reports no problem with the drive neither does Windows, smart or
Aida32.
