I installed apport and booted from the current kernel, but since this meant
connections to the internet had a lifetime measured in seconds, apport was
unable to connect to launchpad long enough not to error out. I made several
attempts to run
apport-collect 799290
at the moment a connection was established, but the connection would not even
stay up long enough for a browser window to open.

Is there any way to collect the information apport needs while running the
older kernel, then reboot and run apport off-line, reporting to a log file, and
finally reboot again with the good kernel to send the report?
I only have apport itself installed, not the apport-gtk interface.
