I am using dapper, and I have the same problem. Every couple of days, gnome-cups-icon starts using 100% of the cpu (according to top). Just today, it happened as soon as I booted up and logged in.
I have the latest dapper version of gnome-cups-manager installed (version 0.31-1.1ubuntu13).
