Public bug reported:
This is an almost virgin install of Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop. Just before I
let the Update Manager do its thing, II installed Cheese. Before that,
the system had been turned off for a few weeks after a mostly successful
installation. (Ubuntu failed to configure the network settings by itself
and insisted all domain names mapped to 198.x.x.x until I used the
Network Manager,, which for the first time on any system I've had, did
not automatically delete the loopback device and render the system
unbootable.)
