Booting and fiddling with RIPLinux reveals that the affected system has
a failing hard disc, possibly as a result of the computer being buried
under a pile of other computers and CRTs during the MMS6.3 earthquake on
the 22nd of February. (But it was still serving web pages from under the
pile.)
