Public bug reported:

Basically, in Volume Control for my Audigy 2 Platinum [SB0240P] I've
lost the ability (since the upgrade from Edgy) to control PCM level
separate from the Master level. I don't see a PCM slider, if I go to
Edit->Preferences I see PCM and it's already selected, but deselecting
it and reselecting seems to deselect/reselect the Master as well (though
the Master slider doesn't disappear and reappear). PCM Center, PCM
Front, PCM LFE and PCM Surround all appear if I enable them, but these
have never done anything for me.

I can't find "PCM" in the alsamixer app. I first noticed this when using
mplayer, the volume control there (which usually controls PCM) is
completely broken, hitting either up or down volume basically mutes it,
and I get this debug message:

alsa-control: error setting left channel, Invalid argument
[Mixer] No hardware mixing, inserting volume filter.

I'm not sure what will be of use in diagnosing this so I'm attaching
dmesg and also /var/lib/alsa/asound.state . Let me know if there's
anything else I can provide.

** Affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
