Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 11.04

This has happened multiple times. After doing a chmod on a folder all
the file permissions show up as question marks. eg:

I do:
sudo chmod 644 /path/to/files/

then listing them:
ls -l /path/to/files/

They show up as:
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? filename
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? filename
-????????? ? ? ? ? ? filename

It is intermittent but so far has cost me gigs worth of data

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
