My results so far:

On 11.10 Oneiric alpha / daily build & fully updated (2011-08-04), I can
not get the dongle to work. See the problems above.

On 11.04 Natty, the wifi dongle does correctly work after a manual
download/make/make install/reboot sequence (see below)

So the driver in the 3.0.0-7-generic is not working for me. Does it work
for anybody else?
