This modem seems to require firmware that isn't distributed with Ubuntu, and it requires you to install gobi-loader (sudo apt-get install gobi- loader). There seem to be places to download the firmware, or else you can copy it from your Windows partition. See the links below for reference, and please post back here whether or not these help.
