Unity/Gnome are a resource hog. If this is fixed, and you can have both
Indicator and global-menu supported in lxpanel, there remains no reason
not to move to lubuntu for many users. By their preference, users can
install docky/synapse/whatever on top of lxde, and get a fully working
ubuntu setup no different in essence from Unity, but at a much lower
resource cost.

Perhaps the importance should be raised above from 'Low'?
