"I was trying to update and I got an error. Then I wanted to report the
bug, and I got this other error."

The day before, I wanted to install a program from USC and got an error
related to my python path(set 2.6) so I changed the path to 2.7 but the
USC wouldn't start so I re-changed it to 2.6.

After booting the next day, I got your exact error and reported it.
Bug#824047.

Was the error when trying to update related to python in any way?

What is your default python version?
