Update #1: libindicator6 is also installed by default in Ubuntu 11.10 Update #2: I have force installed the awn-applet-indicator package without installing libindicator3. When I added the applet it always crashed and in the terminal debug it said that it crashed because libindicator.so.3 did not exist so I made a symbolic link called libindicator.so.3 in /usr/lib which linked to libindicator.so.6 in the same directory. After adding the applet this time it loaded but nothing came up (it was an empty space). I hope that helps with fixing this issue.
