Public bug reported:
i am experiencing this very annoying problem with my ubuntu10.10 amd64, I've
installed it on my Asus EEEBOX, equipped with an AR9285 and it's the only thing
that actually works awfully.
I ran windows too, just to be sure it isn't some problem related to my
hardware. The wireless connection works perfectly under windows7 while when I'm
using it under ubuntu i get :
- extremely high ping rates ranging from 20ms to 1000 or to 4000 (when it's
working at its best) .... it often even reaches 20000ms
- high packet loss % , the highest i got was 60% loss
- unstable link , after performing bad for some time it dies : it appears as
connected still but it sends/receives 0 bytes of data
These problems happen randomly while using the pc as far as I've noticed.
Disconnecting and reconnecting / rebooting / reloading wifi modules into the
kernel do not work at all.
It may perform (almost) normally for some minutes and then it decays.
the wifi drivers are those i found after the ubuntu automatic install,
and i ran all the updates i got day after day from the update center.
it performed bad since the beginning, recently i also tried installing
linux-backports-modules-wireless-maverick-generic(which got me also
modules-compat-wireless automatically) since i read somewhere that it
fixed these problems for some people but it hasn't improved my wifi
performance unfortunatly.
i thought about trying another release or distro but i guess it's not
making any differences, i found many reports from gentoo redhat fedora
suse ubuntu all experiencing problems with this atheros chipset card.
i hope it gets fixed for the next release, this problem affecting wifi
is very debilitating specially when you can't use ethernet.
