It seems most likely that one of the tools that the xorg apport hook
calls is triggering some X bug in your system.  Some of the tools probe
X or other parts of the system for information and could conceivably
trigger a bug like this.

Question is, which tool?  First, we need to see if we can narrow down
which causes it.  Then we want to see if it can be reproduced by running
that tool in isolation

Attached is a modified version of the apport hook which will print out
the tool command lines right before it calls them.  Run this and see
what line is printed  out immediately before the freeze.  Then exit out,
and try running that specific command in isolation.  Report back here
with your findings.

Fwiw, this last week I've been running this apport hook on a bunch of
different systems (including an -ati with unity), and I did not see this
specific bug.  Is there anything unusual about your system that would
help me  understand how to reproduce this bug?
