I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 11.10 with gnome-dictionary 3.1.2.
1. Install gnome-dictionary (it is no longer included by default)
2. Edit>Preferences. Select "Spanish dictionaries." Close the Preferences
window.
3. Enter a word in the Lookup field.
4. After taking a moment, gnome-dictionary shows this error message:
Error while retrieving the definition
Lookup failed for host 'es.dict.org': Unknown error
** Changed in: gnome-utils (Ubuntu)
Status: Incomplete => Triaged
