Hi again,

I made some observations after installing a fresh 11.04 ubuntu
distribution. I needed to be wired until I got the wicd package
installed. With wicd the wireless card works well after booting up the
system from scratch - after a shutdown. Suspend doesnt bring the card up
running again, doing a restart doesnt fix the matter after the error
occured - I need to do a full shutdown. It doesnt take more than half a
minute to boot the system so its not a big issue, though I'm interested
in getting this bug fixed.

What I noticed was that at some point BEFORE the .38 kernel updates, the
suspend mode actually DID WORK. I think it was after dong the updates as
mentioned that I'm pretty much back to where I started.

The thing thats nagging me is that Im dependent on the wicd, and that
the status of the wireless in the shell is disconnected, so the ubuntu
operating system would think that Im offline even though Im all in. For
example, I cant get the ubuntu One sign-in wizard work properly because
it states that "An Internet connection is to Join or Sign in Ubuntu
One".

So, the issue was close to be fixed somewhere before .38 kernel, but I
still needed the wicd package to have the network card work.

cheers

** Description changed:

Hi. I have some problems with my WLAN interface where i have to push the
Fn+F2 button for a long time until the wireless network is enabled and
then I need to manually connect to my network.

At first I also had this problem at startup, but then I added some lines
  in my interfaces file

  /etc/network$ sudo gedit interfaces

        auto lo
        iface lo inet loopback

        auto wlan0
        iface wlan0 inet dhcp

in this way the card booted up when i powered up my laptop.

But when I go to suspend when I close the lid, it wont connect back up again.
After some searching I have now pulled a little script together which makes
the thing connect. I must admit its not a pretty solution but it works.

From the panel I run the shortcut sudo sh wakeup.sh

  wakeup.sh:
  rmmod -f ath9k
  modprobe ath9k
  rfkill unblock all
  ifconfig wlan0 up
  wicd

well, as I said, thats not a pretty solution for my problem.
I can give you the shell log when I run the script:

what a little strange is my rfkill list which shows two interfaces, one which
I cant unblock.
   rfkill list
  0: acer-wireless: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: yes
        Hard blocked: no
  17: phy16: Wireless LAN
        Soft blocked: no
        Hard blocked: no

..the phy16 is phy0 the first time I boot, I guess its my script
  creating new instances.

additionally I installed sicd, which you can also see from my script,
but as I tried to uninstall it, I could get the wireless working at all
  - couldnt enable it. so I have it installed now, although I dont really
  feel that I need it.

So anyhow. I have a dirty workaround for my card problem, but I would rather
see the driver taking care of this on its own - that is, reconnecting the wlan
after suspend. I have seen quite a lot of forum tickets for this, but many
really lack a solution.

  thanks in advance.

  best regards, patric
