Public bug reported:
I'm using 11.10 alpha 3, updated to today's packages. I observed the
problem both before and after updating.
I did a fresh install of 11.10, and chose the "encrypted home directory"
option for my account. When the machine finished installing and
rebooting, and I typed in my username and password, it switched
temporarily to a screen displaying some Linux-kernel-boot-style text
(something about PulseAudio in user mode), then switched back to the
login screen.
If I use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to a virtual console, log in there,
*leave myself logged in*, then use Ctrl-Alt-F7 to switch *back* to the
Ubuntu login screen, I can now successfully log in using the GUI.
This suggests that the 11.10 GUI login process does not correctly handle
opening an encrypted home directory.
