Public bug reported:

On the 16th August 2011 I was running Ubuntu Desktop ( Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS )
I am fairly sure I was running kernel 2.6.32-33. It was working.

On the 17 August 2011 I installed a system update which involved a
change to the kernel. The next time I rebooted the machine, it failed
to boot. Grub gave the error

Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format

It would not boot kernel 2.6.32-33 in either normal mode or in recovery
mode.

Running 'ls -alrt' on /boot shows that the initrd file has been
recently modified.

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9025512 2011-08-17 18:06
initrd.img-2.6.32-33-generic

The machine does reboot ok if I revert to the previous kernel
vmlinuz-2.6.32-32-generic.

This looks very much as if there is a problem with the recent kernel
update.
