Binary package hint: gksu
Running on Feisty + Xgl + Compiz
When opening a program with gksu, right after entering the correct
password, the screen stays greyed out for a long time (2+ minutes),
until the systems is responsive again.
Killing the gksu command (ctrl+alt+f1 --> killall gksu) makes the screen
come back imediatelly.
Switching to Xorg, the issue doesn't happens.

With desktop effects enabled when using gksu system gets grey and only
