I've seen this same bug reported in many forums but have NOT been able to find a solution anywhere other than replugging the USB pointer. Sometimes other USB pointer issues get mixed in but the common point for this particular issue is the pointer is never detected at startup but works fine after unplugging and replugging the pointer.
