Would solving this bug be a security concern?

I don't think GUI applications should ever be run as root if possible.
It increases the chance of vulnerabilities, and doesn't use settings for
the current user (because we're now the root user), and created files
are owned by root, etc. Instead the application should request
privileges when needed.
