I had this problem with a Dell Vostro 3400 laptop. I was running 11.10 with sound just fine, and after a package update I had no sound. After checking all the normal things like if mute was on, volume levels, selected sound devices etc, I hit this post for the bug. I did 2 things to recover the sound:
1.) I uninstalled the pulseaudio package with dependancies, then re-installed. 2.) I removed the ~/.pulse directory After a system restart I had sound again. One other thing that will work to regain sound in some cases is remove pulseaudio and allow the system to fall back to the alsa system. This is less than ideal since you lose some of the functionality that pulse adds to the system, but on temperamental hardware it is a reasonable work around. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/821052 Title: No sound after upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/821052/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
