Sure enough... re-installed my original RAM and the problems went away.
What's weird though, is that I ran memtest86 with the apparently failing
RAM for 36 hours and didn't see a single failure at all. Also, as much
as I hate to say it... WIndows 7 had no problems either performing
things like uncomressing Zip and RAR files, streaming video etc...
So back to a measly 4GB for me, I guess. Marking as invalid since it
does seem to be a hardware issue.
