Using a daily livecd build, the display blanks out early in the boot
process. If I attach an external monitor (VGA or HDMI) then both
displays will work properly, though unplugging the monitor freezes the
machine. If I specify nomodeset, the display will work, but I lose
brightness and resolution control.
