I'm testing the Lubuntu oneiric alternate CD 20110827-i386 and I've run
through the process twice to be certain this could be reproduced. Upon
completing the installation the installed size per gparted is only
952.79 MB, and trying to boot simply fails.
If I boot into recovery mode via grub and select the netroot option
running apt-get -f install shows nothing but running apt-get install
lubuntu-desktop installs the full meal deal similar to what's seen after
performing a cli/minimal install. I'll attach the apt logs if not
included by apport-collect.
