Just for the record, what version of usbmount are you people using?

Or are you having problems with mounting USB devices (which is a
completely different issue from having the *package* usbmount failing to
recognize devices)?

usbmount relies on the kernel/udev to do its job and, generally,
problems with usbmount are not really directly usbmount problems.

Just for the record #2, in a general, vanilla {K,X,L,}Ubuntu system, you
wouldn't have usbmount installed unless you install it explicitly, as
usbmount is a lower level program meant for
minimalistic/embedded/headless systems.
